A superb guide for anyone searching for information on this intriguing subject

As a student counselor for the past 7 years, my curiosity regarding the increase of narcissism due to technology has been piqued in the past couple years. I purchased this book because it seemed like the perfect provision of information to help me delineate the difference between standard narcissistic behavior and a possible narcissism disorder. The information contained in the pages was quite detailed and the author is an obvious authority on the subject. The studies discussed and the varying views of the impact of Twitter, Facebook, and selfies were quite interesting. The author’s lack of bias and ability to make arguments for both sides was refreshing and the differing examples really helped me substantiate the variances. From defining narcissism and things you need to know about people afflicted with it all the way to finding help for those that may be diagnosed, this book covers all aspects of this intriguing and difficult malady.
In summation, if you’re looking for an outstanding reference for narcissism and its place in today’s contemporary society, you won’t find better than this one. I’m sure it’s going to be a reference in my library for a long time to come.

There is A LOT of This Going Around

Every time I see a selfie being taken, or the already posted selfie, I'm like, 'are they just playing or are they really that into themselves?' This offering gives me the most thorough look at the phenomenon that I've seen to date.
This 'disorder' has always been around of course, but it does seem so much worse today as everyone can set up their own kinda 'Brand' due to the internet, mobile, and many people really do flaunt it constantly.
What I found here was a great grounding in what it is, some psychological insight, and then beyond the history: just how does our pervasive tech of today lend itself to the promotion of a narcissistic personality. It's very sobering when you think this could be the new norm from here on out for the society as a whole.
But all is not lost, and Cedric gives us readers some ideas on how to deal with it since they are here among us! ;) I think my favorite chapter heading was the delightfully utilitarian Title: 'Ways to Shut Down a Narcissist'...

Excellent

Me and a friend were talking about the huge amount of selfies we see online these days and he recommended this book so I picked it up. I found this to be a very researched, well written and thought provoking read. It was a very interesting read and I think most people have seen the effects of modern technology in this manner. As nearly everyone has a smart phone these days and most people take it everywhere we always have a camera at our disposal and this is definitely part of the reason we see so many selfies online. Not everyone who takes a selfie is a narcissist however as so many people do it the signs can be more difficult to spot. The self check included in the book was very interesting and a few of my friends and I tried it out with some surprising results it definitely made us more self-aware.
Overall a very interesting and thought provoking book. Highly recommended.
