COULDN'T PUT IT DOWN!!!

Alright...to begin with, I don't recommend books to friends, family, neighbors or acquaintances. I usually find that when I do the recommendation comes back and bites me in the butt.
Secondly, I don't do reviews of books I've read. Other readers rarely care for the opinion of some old geezer in his 70's.
Thirdly (and I've said this before) I NEVER read romance novels. Why read about something that is a distant memory, at best.
And with that said...
I can't recommend this book strongly enough! It kept me on the edge of my seat at times, and at other moments had me reaching for the tissue box. Every question I had after reading the first two books of this series (I refuse to call it a trilogy, as I'm hoping for just one more book!) was answered. Every character - even ones you'd forgotten about - is dealt with in a logical way...bringing their part of the story to a logical conclusion.
I absolutely loved this book! just like I loved the first two ("All My Love, Detrick" and "You Are My Sunshine"). One thing to remember, though...be sure and read the first two before starting "The Promised Land".
Like I said, I don't do reviews and I don't recommend books...so this isn't a review, it's just a few thoughts concerning a great read! and about the recommendation...let's just say you won't be sorry if you pick this one up!
Oh, and about my not reading romance novels...that still holds true...EXCEPT FOR BOOKS BY ROBERTA KAGAN!

Wonderful, wonderful!

I have a complicated relationship with Roberta Kagan's books. It is a love/hate relationship. I love to read them and hate that I read them so fast because I cannot put them down! She puts you right into the lives of the characters so that you feel like you would recognize them if you met them on the street. The people are like family that you are proud to be connected to. Her writing is educational and endearing. You really need to start at the beginning with All My Love Detrick so you have the story from the beginning. Thank you for such wonderful books.

Repercussions of the Holocaust never end...

This is the third book of the series and I am still attached to the characters—those whose lives the author still tells us about and those newly introduced. Ms. Kagan places the characters and important circumstances throughout the plot in a manner that, if you've read the previous books of the series, refreshes your memory without boring you, and, meanwhile, introduces them to the reader who is knew to the series.

She beautifully weaves together the horror of what these people endured, the strength that kept them alive, and the reward that finally awaited them, all the while carrying an additional thread of the "current events" as they pertained to the main plot.

Sometimes I felt like the story was dying down only to be reignited either right where I was or somewhere else quite unexpectedly. There are a few characters whose use to the overall plot seemed to have "expired", and I found myself wondering why words were being wasted on them; but I think they will be more meaningful in the next book, "To Be an Israeli"—which I cannot wait to see published!

The Holocaust in Historical Fiction has become one of my favorite genres thanks to authors such as Roberta Kagan. Even though the story is fictional, a good amount of factual history is there to continually surprise you. In this case, the surprises are not good, but the knowledge of them is! It never ceases to horrify me that there were—and still are—"people" in the world who carry such hate in their souls!

A Christrmas treat

I dearly love this book. Someone gave me an antique copy when I was in grade school and it's wonderful now to have it on my Kindle. For readers who don't know Jerome K. Jerome, this is an amusing introduction to a very droll writer who was also an acute observer of his time. And it's a quick read for aficionados of Christmas ghost stories.

Jerome K. Jerome will make you laugh out loud. Told After Supper is a humorous and entertaining book. It is in the Victorian style when ghost stories were often told at Christmas. The book is a quick read, and could be read in one sitting. Told after supper is going to be a traditional Christmas read for me now.
