"Myofascia has been quite a buzz word in recent times and there has been much written about the understandings and treatment methods for these 'newly (re) discovered' structures. My main concern was that some of these text lacked an in depth understanding of the subject and did little to explain how fascia fitted into the clinical puzzle. I'm happy to say that this book is excellent and addresses all my concerns! About the Author
Dominik Irnich, MD, is Head of the Interdisciplinary Pain Centre at the University of Munich and Visiting Lecturer at various Universities and Intuitions across Germany, Europe and the USA.
Dr Irnich holds a Certificate of Acupuncture, a Certificate of Chinese Massage and a Certificate of Qigong (China Beijing International Acupuncture Training Centre, WHO Collaborating Centre of Traditional Chinese Medicine), a Certificate of Acupuncture (A, B) of the German Medical Acupuncture Association (DÄGfA) and a Certificate of Natural Medicine (Naturopathy) of KneippÄrztebund and is a practicing acupuncturist.
Dr. Irnich is a member of faculty at different institutions: German Medical Acupuncture Association (DÄGfA), Acupuncture Course at Julius-Maximilians-University of Regensburg, KneippÄrztebund, Structural Acupuncture Course for Physicians at Harvard Medical School, Boston, USA.
His fields of research include basic science research (physiology of peripheral nociception including acupuncture) and clinical research on acupuncture and pain (research methodology, clinical effectiveness). Dr Irnich has published 34 original papers, 19 chapters in different textbooks, proceedings, reviews and editorials, 43 abstracts of poster and oral presentations and has given more than 100 invited lectures.

review of etude book

The book arrived sealed in plastic, appeared to be new and never used, was spiral bound as listed and in perfect condition. The order was filled in a timely manner and I would use this vendor again. I'm beginning to work on the etudes and it appears to be an appropriate selection of cello etudes from a variety of composers that will increasingly challenge any beginner to intermediate level cellist.

Great for motivated adult beginners.

As an adult beginner, these etudes are just what I need: structured and goal oriented. In contrast to the Suzuki pieces I am also studying, Schroeder presents only one concept at a time. A great addition to my cello studies.

Invaluable but be forewarned!

My daughter's cello teacher recommended this book and his own version that he's used for many years. The only complaint I have is that this book goes quickly from very easy cello music to harder music and practice. Another parent with a child who plays cello complained of the same thing.

Nevertheless, my daughter sounds beautiful playing from this.

Breaking the textbook mold, "A History of US" contains none of the intimidation that comes with behemoth texts. It tells the tale of America in 10 user-friendly, small, illustrated books written in a personal tone, as if the author were a storyteller. (An 11th source book, with original documents, is also available.)

For the captains of industry (sometimes called Robber Barons) -- men like Andrew Carnegie, John D. Rockefeller, J.P. Morgan, and Henry Ford -- the Gilded Age is a time of big money. Technology booms with the new trains, telephones, electric lights, harvesters, vacuum cleaners, and more. But for millions of immigrant workers, it is a time of hardship: workers, including children, often toil 12 to 14 hours a day sometimes under dangerous conditions. In this volume, titled "An Age of Extremes", you'll meet Mother Jones, Ida Tarbell, Big Bill Haywood, Sam Gompers, Theodore Roosevelt and others. Joy Hakim looks at the extremes of the Gilded Age

Joy Hakim forewarns her young readers that "An Age of Extremes 1880-1917," volume 8 in A History of US, talks a lot about Economics, but also assures them that this time around it will not be a "yawn." This particular volume looks at the United States at what we now refer to as the turn of the last century, what Mark Twain called the "Gilded Age." However, the preface sets up the idea that this period was an age of extremes that saw business tycoons with great wealth and millions of immigrants living in poverty. While the Brooklyn Bridge and Panama Canal were being built Jim Crow laws were established in the South and the Indian wars ended in the West. Underneath this all Hakim reminds her readers that the United States is a nation of practical idealists and that in contrast to the Founding Fathers like Benjamin Franklin, the businessmen of the Gilded Age, such as Cornelius Vanderbilt, were unscrupulous rather than altruistic.
"An Age of Extremes" basically breaks down into five sections. The first (Chapters 1-7) starts with the rags to riches story of Andrew Carnegie and other magnates, as well as a dreamer of a different type in L. Frank Baum. The second (Chapters 8-14) covers American politics at the end of the 19th century, contrasting Republican support for big business with the rise of the Populists and William Jennings Bryan. The third (Chapters 15-21) offers the flip side of the first, focusing on the plight of the working class. The fourth (Chapters 22-28) tells how the Gilded Age turned Progressive, beginning with the Muckrakers and ending with the emergence of Theodore Roosevelt on the national stage. The final section (Chapters 29-37) begins with America's imperialistic interests in the Spanish-American War and ends with Woodrow Wilson leading the nation into a World War to save democracy. In between, T.R. remains the dominant figure.
As always, Hakim's book is richly illustrated with period photographs, paintings, editorial cartoons and the like, including a photograph of the Dakota apartment building seen from Central Park after its construction which will strike a chord with fans of John Lennon. The pictures reinforce Hakim's point that this period was a time of both prosperity and poverty, of idealism and corruption. The volume ends with the U.S. entering the First World War, setting up the revolutionary changes that would come afterwards in the Jazz Age. The strength of Hakim's volumes remains her ability to engage her young readers. This might be a good old-fashioned juvenile history text, but it has the energy of a CD-Rom or a great Internet website. The series is perfect for parents who are home schooling their children because Hakim "talks" to her readers as if she were teaching them in a classroom, anticipating questions and demanding that they look at history from the perspective of the people they are reading about in these pages.

Not to bad if required by professor

Pros: The book has a nice cover and the first few chapters were not too bad. The material was kind of bland, but the subject is really interesting in itself. You really need to understand the concepts and where they come from because if you don't, then you are going to hate this book. I especially liked the chapter on data marts and data warehouses. It really opened my eyes to the way different companies have so much information coming through them at any given time. The authors own touches to this otherwise boring content really made the book a little more bearable.

Cons: The later chapters are really boring and go extremely in depth into the subject. I would catch myself falling asleep multiple times while trying to get through one chapter. I felt as if the information was extremely repetitive and almost common sense. The book also was very flimsy and ripped on multiple occasions. Most individuals that buy this book are probably required to by your professor. Sorry if that is the case, guess you have no choice.

While I wouldn't recommend this product, if you are required by your professor to use this book, then I guess you have no choice.

Overpriced, Poorly Written; Just use Wikipedia (like the authors did)

Completely overpriced at over $80 for what could very easily be replaced by competent searches in Wikipedia (a source which the book actually cites - albeit incorrectly - in several places) and free online case studies from Business Intelligence providers like Tableau.

The case studies are repetitive; most could be summarized as "Company A used to use manual processes for information, then they used Tool B from IT Company X, and it solved all their problems." The "Questions for Discussion" following each case study are nothing more than reading comprehension questions that merely verify if you actually read the case, which is asinine considering the cases are only a few paragraphs.

Typographical and editorial errors are also embarrassingly abundant throughout the book - errors that should have been identified by a high-school student, let alone a field expert. At one point, the authors tout the age of data visualization, and include a figure of the "First Pie Chart", which is definitely not a pie chart: (image: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Playfair#mediaviewer/File:Playfair_TimeSeries-2.png).

I am not sure whether I got a textbook or a brochure. It seems like the authors were too lazy to develop good cases so they went to the marketing Departments of several business intelligence companies and ask for their brochure.
It was okay for an introduction to the material. Don't buy it unless you absolutely have to for the test
