SampleShe didn’t make out its shape at first. It was only when it drooled glowing molten metal as it fed that she noticed it, sprawled out and gripping close to the side of a city tram, like it was making love to it. Its molten slather beaded and slopped from its mouth and hit the wet road in a hissing cloud of steam. Its white eyes stared at the sky, unblinking, while it shredded sheet metal and devoured it with grinding black jaws. Everything about it was black and heaving. The monster swallowed its mouthful of molten metal so loudly that Tabitha heard it up the road. Some kind of exhaust jutted out of its back then; a glowing growth that hissed and sighed a huge jet of steam. The monster’s rubbery black metal body gleamed in the rain and the grey daylight, dripping and hulking as it dropped down to the road and rested. Suddenly its head snapped around in her direction, white eyes staring. Terrified, Tabitha had hidden behind a half-eaten taxi. Its bodywork was covered in messy welding where the creature had bitten and slobbered. She peered around from the wheel arch, looking through the doorless back door, through the taxi’s torn-open front, to where the alien stood in the distance. It hadn’t moved; it hadn’t turned its head. It was just staring in the rain, eyes glowing cold, watching down the road for any sign of the intruder. Tabitha didn’t dare breathe.Discover a new kind of superhero.

Its strange, powerful and a lot to take in. I can only compare Andrew Hall to the brilliant madness of a Terry Gilliam.

Its hard to describe the journey that is Tabitha. Points to be aware of: 1) while many Amazon kindle writers tend to suffer from lack of polish and detail in their storytelling, Andrew Hall does not posses that problem. At all. The writing was both exquisite and occasionally overwhelming in its detail. 2) Prepare to be depressed. One of the reasons I would give for calling his writing overwhelming is the massive levels of greys and black he paints his world with. When he is able to weave a narrative that can describe in minute detail the abysmal actions of abysmal people in abysmal situations happening in an abysmal environment, it can be a bit of a downer and at times i just had to skip forward a page or two. 3) Prepare to have your suspension of disbelief stretched then broken and then somehow reestablished by the overwhelming power of Andrew Halls intricate imagination. Without spoiling anything im referring to the books final quarter which, upon reflection I can only compare to the brilliant madness of a Terry Gilliam. This book can be brutal and depressing but yet somehow he keeps you involved and somehow makes the impossible ideas he comes up with seem possible. I wanted to not like this book, I was surprised that I DIDNT not like this book. I literally kept expecting to put it down at some point and go "Ok, thats it. I cant take these bad things happening anymore." But I couldnt. I couldnt put it down. and in the end, after reading the last word and being still for a moment I realized I loved this book.

The main character is pretty clueless and useless
By Amazon Customer
Overall, a depressing tale. The main character is pretty clueless and useless, even after alien DNA makes her a (literally) unkillable fighting machine. She never actually succeeds at anything other than surviving (and taking revenge on someone who was going to die anyway). The few decent human beings get killed, either by aliens or the other humans. (It is worth noting that the "selfish and bloodthirsty humans" are the ones who live the longest.) Tabitha only makes it to the end of the book because she literally cannot be permanently killed. But she does end up with a magic space dragon so she can go play galactic tourist.

Unusual, absorbing and entertaining.
By Snowbrocade
Tabitha is a young Welsh woman with a boring office job but not for long because she gets laid off. And hostile aliens invade earth. She awakes one day to find her world overrun by nasty spiders that attack her at every turn. She quickly switches to survival mode and travels far north to try to find a safe haven. On the way she encounters other hostile alien life forms as well as a few desperate humans and feral dogs who attack her. She finds a small community to live with but they are under constant attack from the aliens.
This a long meandering adventure tale but I was hooked after the first few chapters. The problems of survival and companionship under the strain of a radically altered world provided good entertainment and suspense. I love a good post-apocalyptic story and this fits the bill. The author has a good enough grasp of writing to prevent any barriers to good storytelling. I would definitely try this author again.
